Malachi
Treated in 95 passages across the library.
The last book of the Old Testament, addressed to the Jews after the return from exile. Malachi rebukes careless worship, broken marriages and the withholding of tithes, inviting the people to "prove me now herewith" and see the windows of heaven opened. He promises the coming of the Lord to His temple, preceded by a messenger, Elijah the prophet.
Chapters
The verses these writers stop at
- 1:6 A son honors his father, and a servant honors his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due to me? If I am a master, where is the respect due to me? says the LORD of Armies to you priests who despise my name. Yet you ask, "In what way have we despised your name?" 8
- 3:3 He will sit like one who refines and purifies silver; he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they will belong to the LORD and bring offerings in righteousness. 8
- 3:6 I am the LORD, and I do not change; that is why you, descendants of Jacob, have not been destroyed. 8
- 3:10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there will be food in my house. Put me to the test in this, says the LORD of Armies, and see if I do not open the windows of heaven for you and pour out on you a blessing until you have more than enough. 8
- 3:16 Then those who feared the LORD talked with one another, and the LORD listened and heard them. A book of remembrance was written in his presence about those who feared the LORD and honored his name. 8
- 4:2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, bringing healing in its wings. You will go out leaping like calves let out of the stall. 7
- 3:1 See, I am sending my messenger, and he will clear the way ahead of me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, is coming, says the LORD of Armies. 6
- 3:2 But who can bear the day of his coming? Who can hold their ground when he appears? For he will be like a refiner's fire and like the soap of those who wash clothes. 5
