Purity, God's Gift

2 Corinthians 4:7 says, “But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.”

My Dear Comrades, I now come to one of the most important parts of this subject: How can a Pure Heart be obtained? I can almost hear the question rising within you: “It is good, precious, and desirable—but how can I have it?”

Let us take a brief look back at the ground we have covered together.

First, we considered what holiness truly is—not a constant emotional high, nor a life that allows room for sin. Then we saw its value: peace, usefulness, and the continued favour of God. We also established that this life is possible for anyone—young or old, rich or poor—because God is able to cleanse and sustain a holy life.

Now we come to the heart of the matter: How is it obtained? Two Powers at Work. When you ask, “What must I do to be pure?” the answer is this: something must be done, and part of it rests with you.

There are two forces involved: The Divine — God The Human — You God and man work together, just as in everyday life. You labour, and God provides. At conversion, you repented and believed—and God saved you. It is the same here. From beginning to end, it is God who saves. Fix that truth firmly in your mind: a Pure Heart comes from God alone. Only He can remove pride, anger, selfishness, and every inward sin—and replace them with love and peace. This is the work of the Holy Spirit, the cleansing fire. What a comfort—to know that the One who is able is also willing.

Your Part: Faith While God does the work, your responsibility is clear: you must believe. Scripture teaches that the heart is purified by faith. When a soul comes to God, yields fully to His will, and trusts Him to cleanse it—that very moment, the work is done. Faith says, “It is mine now.”

What Will Not Cleanse the Heart Let us be clear about what cannot produce this purity: 1. Not human effort No person can cleanse your heart—not a preacher, not a leader, not a friend. Only Christ can do that.

2. Not religious activity alone Meetings, prayers, and songs help, but without true faith, they are empty.

3. Not knowledge You may understand holiness deeply and still never experience it.

4. Not repentance alone Many feel sorrow for sin and try to change, but stop short of believing in full deliverance.

5. Not consecration alone You may offer yourself to God, but without His power, you cannot live it out.

The Final Step All these may lead you forward—but there is one step you must take: Faith.

You may say: “I desire” “I repent” “I surrender” But will you say: “I believe God cleanses me now.”

That is the final step—the moment where desire becomes reality.
