Introduction: The Best Story of All
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1
Do you like stories? Stories about brave people, and long journeys, and big surprises? This book is full of them. But these stories are special, because they are true. They come from the Bible, the book God gave us so that we could know Him.
The Bible is really one long story, the best story of all. It begins with God making the world and everything in it. Then something goes badly wrong, and the rest of the story is about how God sets out to put it right. He makes promises, and He keeps every one of them. And all the way through, the story is getting ready for someone very important: God’s own Son, Jesus.
This first book tells the stories from Genesis, the very first book of the Bible. You will meet Adam and Eve, Noah and his great boat, Abraham who looked up at the stars, and Joseph with his colourful robe. Some of them were brave and some of them were not. Some of them did terrible things. But in every story God is there, keeping His promises and taking care of His people.
Each story begins with a verse from the Bible and ends with a prayer. After the prayer there are some questions to talk about with the grown-up who is reading with you. If you want, you can find the story in your own Bible too, and read it there.
So snuggle up, and let’s begin at the very beginning.
Dear God, thank you for the Bible and for all its true stories. As we read them, help us to know you and to love you. Amen.
Talk about it together
Ask the questions first — then tap one for a note for grown-ups.
Where do the stories in this book come from?
From the Bible, the book God gave us so that we could know Him. That means they are true stories, not made-up ones.
What is the Bible’s one big story about?
God made a good world, something went badly wrong, and God set out to put it right, keeping every promise He made. The whole story leads to Jesus.
Which Bible story do you already know? Which one are you looking forward to?
Any answer is a good one. If your child knows a story already, let them tell it to you in their own words.
