Day 25 — I Will Come Back
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well. In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.”
— John 14:1–3 (BSB)
Have you ever had someone you love go away for a while? Maybe a parent on a work trip, a grandparent who lives far away, or a friend who moved. Saying goodbye is hard. But when they say, “I’ll come back,” it gives you something to look forward to. You might count the days until you see them again.
On the night before He died, Jesus told His disciples He was going away. They were confused and upset. He had been with them for three years! How could He leave?
So Jesus comforted them with a beautiful promise: “In My Father’s house are many rooms… I am going there to prepare a place for you… I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.”
Jesus was going back to heaven. But He was going to get a place ready for them, like someone preparing a room for a guest they love. And He promised He would come back to bring them home.
That promise is for you too.
The Bible teaches that one day, Jesus is coming back. We don’t know when. Jesus said no one knows the day or the hour. But it’s as sure as the sunrise. The same Jesus who was born in Bethlehem, died on the cross and rose from the dead will return. And everyone who belongs to Him will be with Him forever.
That’s the most exciting thing about the future! Whatever else happens in your life, whatever job you have or wherever you live, the best part of your story is still ahead.
So how do we live while we wait?
- Don’t let your heart be troubled. Trust Jesus. He keeps His promises.
- Keep following Him. Live every day in a way that would make you glad if He came back today.
- Tell others. Help as many people as possible be ready to meet Him.
- Look forward to it! The last prayer in the whole Bible is “Come, Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20).
Think about it: How does knowing that Jesus is coming back change the way you live today?
Try this: Pray the last prayer in the Bible today: “Come, Lord Jesus!” Then live the day in a way you’d be glad for Him to see.
Dear Jesus, thank You that You’re preparing a place for me, and that You promised to come back. Help me not to let my heart be troubled. Help me live every day ready to see You. Come, Lord Jesus! In Your name, Amen.
