Day 24 — He Will Finish It

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

— Philippians 1:6 (BSB)

Have you ever started a project and never finished it? Maybe a puzzle that’s still sitting half-done on a table. A drawing you gave up on halfway through. A book you meant to read but put down after chapter two. We’ve all left things unfinished.

But God never does.

Paul wrote this to his friends in the church at Philippi. He was in prison, but he was full of joy, because he was so sure of this: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”

What is the “good work” God began in you? It’s the work of making you more like Jesus. It started when you first trusted Him. God forgave you, gave you new life and put His Spirit inside you. And He’s been working on you ever since.

Sometimes it might not feel like much is happening. You still mess up. You still struggle with the same sins. You still have bad days. You might wonder, Is God really changing me?

But Paul says to be “confident.” God isn’t done with you yet. He’s still working, and He will finish what He started.

Think about a potter making a clay pot. At first, it’s just a lump of clay spinning on the wheel. Then, slowly, the potter shapes it with his hands. It takes time. It might look lumpy and strange halfway through. But the potter doesn’t give up. He keeps working until it’s beautiful.

God is the potter, and you are the clay (Isaiah 64:8). He’s shaping you, little by little, into what He designed you to be. And He won’t quit halfway.

When will He be finished? “Until the day of Christ Jesus,” when Jesus comes back. On that day, God’s work in you will be complete. You’ll be fully like Jesus.

Until then, you can be patient with yourself, because God is patient with you. And you can keep growing, trusting that He’s still at work.

Think about it: What’s something God has already changed in you since you started following Him? What are you still waiting for Him to change?

Try this: Write down three ways you’ve seen yourself grow since Book 1 of Rooted (or since you started following Jesus). Thank God for each one.

Dear God, thank You for the good work You started in me. Thank You that You never give up, and You will finish what You began. When I feel like I’m not growing, help me trust that You’re still working. Keep shaping me to be like Jesus. In His name, Amen.
