Day 8 — All for God’s Glory
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:31 (BSB)
What does eating a sandwich have to do with God?
Paul says, “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.” Eating and drinking! Those are about the most ordinary things there are. You do them every day without even thinking.
But that’s exactly Paul’s point. There’s no part of your life that’s too ordinary for God. You don’t have one “God part” of your life (like church and prayer) and a separate “normal part” (like school, sports and chores). All of it can be for God.
What does it mean to do something “to the glory of God”? God’s glory means His greatness and goodness shining out so people can see it. When you do something to the glory of God, you’re doing it in a way that shows how great and good He is.
Here’s what that might look like:
- Eating: thanking God for your food, and sharing with others.
- Playing sports: giving your best, playing fair, being a good sport when you win or lose.
- Doing homework: working hard and being honest, because your mind is a gift from God.
- Playing with friends: being kind, including others and not cheating.
- Doing chores: working cheerfully without complaining.
- Making art or music: enjoying the creativity God gave you.
- Resting: enjoying the good gifts God has made.
Think about it this way. If you’re playing soccer, you could be playing for yourself (so people will think you’re great), for your team, or for God. When you play for God, you’ll still try your hardest. But you’ll also play with a good attitude, be kind to the other team and thank God for your body that can run and kick.
This changes everything! Your whole day, from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep, can be a way of worshiping God.
Think about it: What’s something ordinary you do every day that you’ve never thought of as a way to honor God? How could you do it “to the glory of God”?
Try this: Pick three ordinary things you’ll do today. Before each one, whisper, “God, I’m doing this for You.”
Dear God, I want everything I do to bring You glory: my eating, my playing, my schoolwork, my chores and my rest. Help me remember that no part of my life is too ordinary for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
