Day 19 — One Body, Many Parts

“The body is a unit, though it is composed of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ… Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.”

— 1 Corinthians 12:12, 27 (BSB)

Imagine if your body was made up only of eyes. You could see really well! But you couldn’t hear, smell, walk or eat. Or imagine if your body was just one giant ear. You’d hear everything, but how would you get anywhere?

Paul used this funny picture to teach about the church. The church is like a body, and Jesus is the head. Every person who follows Jesus is a part of that body. Some are like eyes, some like hands, some like feet. They’re all different, but they all belong, and they all need each other.

Paul wrote, “The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I do not need you.’ Nor can the head say to the feet, ‘I do not need you’” (1 Corinthians 12:21). Every part matters.

Here’s what this means for you.

You are part of the body right now. Not someday, when you’re older. Right now! Kids are not the “future of the church.” You’re part of the church today. God has a place for you.

You don’t have to be like everyone else. Some people are great at teaching, some at singing, some at encouraging, some at fixing things, some at noticing people who are sad. God made you on purpose to be the part He wants you to be.

Every part is important. Some parts get noticed more, like the pastor or the worship leader. But some of the most important parts of your body are ones you never see, like your heart and your lungs! In the church, the person who quietly sets up chairs or prays for others is just as important as the one on stage.

We need each other. Paul also said, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it” (1 Corinthians 12:26). When you stub your toe, your whole body feels it! In God’s family, we care about each other’s joys and sorrows.

Church isn’t just a building or a meeting. It’s a family, a body, and you belong in it.

Think about it: What “part” of the body do you think God might have made you to be? What are you good at, or what do you love to do?

Try this: This week at church, do one thing to help “the body.” Help a teacher, welcome a visitor, or thank someone who serves behind the scenes.

Dear God, thank You for making me part of the body of Christ. Thank You that I belong, right now. Help me find my place and do my part. Help me value everyone else’s part too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
