Day 27 — Wings Like Eagles
“But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”
— Isaiah 40:31 (BSB)
Have you ever watched an eagle fly? Most birds have to flap and flap their wings to stay in the air. But eagles can soar high in the sky, sometimes for a long time, barely moving their wings at all. How? They find rising currents of warm air, called thermals, and let the air carry them up and up. They don’t have to work hard. They just spread their wings and rest on the wind.
Isaiah says people who trust God are like that.
Sometimes you feel tired. Not just sleepy tired, but tired inside. Tired of trying hard. Tired of a situation that never seems to change. Tired of being brave. Maybe you’re tired of a problem at school, or a hard time at home, or a sickness that won’t go away.
Isaiah wrote to people who felt exactly like that. God’s people had been through a long, hard time, and they were worn out. So God gave them this promise.
Look at who gets the strength: “those who wait upon the LORD.” To wait on the Lord means to trust Him, depend on Him and look to Him for help, instead of trying to do everything in your own strength. It’s like the eagle spreading its wings and letting the wind carry it.
And look at what God promises:
- “They will renew their strength.” God gives fresh energy, like recharging a battery.
- “They will mount up with wings like eagles.” Sometimes God lifts you high above your problems.
- “They will run and not grow weary.” Sometimes He gives you strength to keep going fast.
- “They will walk and not faint.” And sometimes, on the hardest days, He gives you just enough strength to take the next step.
All three are gifts from God. Some days you’ll soar. Some days you’ll run. And some days you’ll just walk, one step at a time. But God promises you won’t faint.
Think about it: Is there something in your life right now that’s making you feel tired inside?
Try this: Take a few quiet minutes today to “wait on the Lord.” Sit still, tell God you’re tired and ask Him to renew your strength.
Dear God, sometimes I feel tired and worn out. Thank You for promising to renew my strength when I wait on You. Help me stop trying to do everything on my own and rest in You, like an eagle resting on the wind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
