Day 8 — Faithfulness

“Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

— Luke 16:10 (BSB)

If you wanted someone to take care of your new puppy for a week, who would you ask? Probably not the friend who forgot to feed their goldfish. You’d ask someone who’s shown they can be trusted with small things.

That’s what faithfulness means: being someone who can be trusted. A faithful person keeps their promises. They do what they said they’d do. They show up. They’re reliable.

Jesus said faithfulness starts with little things. “Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much.” Little things matter more than we think! Things like:

  • Doing your chores, even when nobody’s checking.
  • Finishing your homework on time.
  • Keeping a promise to a friend, even when something more fun comes along.
  • Being where you said you’d be, when you said you’d be there.
  • Taking care of things that belong to other people.

Think about Joseph in the Old Testament. He was sold as a slave and taken to Egypt. He could have been lazy and bitter. Instead, he worked faithfully, and his master put him in charge of the whole house. Later, when he was unfairly thrown in prison, he was faithful there too, and he was put in charge of the other prisoners. Because Joseph was faithful in small places, God eventually put him in charge of all of Egypt!

Jesus also warned the opposite: “whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” Little lies and little cheats grow into big ones. The small choices you make now are building the kind of person you’ll be later.

The best news is that God is faithful. He has never broken a promise. Not one. When you trust Him, His faithfulness starts to rub off on you.

Think about it: What’s a “little thing” in your life that you could be more faithful in?

Try this: Make one promise today, even a small one like “I’ll help you with that after dinner,” and keep it.

Dear God, thank You that You are always faithful and You never break a promise. Help me be faithful in little things: my chores, my homework and my promises. Make me someone people can trust. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
