Day 7 — Goodness
“Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith.”
— Galatians 6:9–10 (BSB)
A farmer plants seeds in the spring. Then he waters them. He pulls weeds. He waters some more. Day after day, week after week, he works in the field. And for a long time, it looks like nothing is happening. But he doesn’t give up, because he knows that “in due time” the harvest will come.
Paul says doing good is like that. Goodness means doing what is right and helping others, over and over, even when it seems like no one notices and nothing is changing.
Have you ever done something good and felt like it didn’t matter? You cleaned up the kitchen, and nobody said thank you. You were kind to a kid at school, and they were still grumpy. You told the truth, and you got in trouble anyway. It’s easy to “grow weary,” to get tired and think, Why bother?
But Paul says, “Don’t give up!” Every good thing you do is like a seed. You might not see the harvest right away. But God sees every seed you plant, and “in due time” He brings the harvest. Sometimes you’ll see it here. Sometimes you won’t see it until heaven. But it’s never wasted.
The Bible tells about a woman named Tabitha, also called Dorcas, who was always doing good and helping the poor (Acts 9:36). She made clothes for poor widows. She probably never thought of herself as famous. But when she died, all the widows she had helped gathered around, crying and showing the clothes she had made for them. Her goodness had touched so many lives. (And God did something amazing: He brought her back to life through Peter!)
Paul says to do good “to everyone.” Not just to people who are nice to you. Not just to your friends. Everyone. And “especially to the family of faith,” your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Think about it: Have you ever felt tired of doing good because nobody seemed to notice? What does Galatians 6:9 say to you about that?
Try this: Look for an “opportunity” to do good today, and take it. Then remind yourself: “God saw that.”
Dear God, sometimes I get tired of doing good when no one notices. Help me not to give up. Thank You that You see every good thing I do, and that You will bring a harvest in Your time. Help me do good to everyone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
