Day 25 — A Lamp for My Feet
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
— Psalm 119:105 (BSB)
Have you ever gone camping and had to walk through the woods at night? Without a flashlight, it’s scary. You can’t see the tree roots that might trip you, the rocks in the path or which way the trail goes. But turn on a flashlight, and suddenly you can see where to step.
The Bible says God’s Word is like that. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
In Bible times, people didn’t have flashlights. They carried small oil lamps. These lamps didn’t light up the whole forest. They only lit up the next few steps in front of you. But that was enough. You’d take a step, and the light would show you the next one.
That’s often how the Bible works in our lives. It doesn’t tell you exactly what job you’ll have, who your friends will be in five years or what’s going to happen next week. But it shows you the next step: how to treat your brother or sister today, what to do when you’re tempted, what to say when a friend is sad, how to trust God when you’re worried.
The world can feel dark and confusing. Everyone has an opinion about what’s right and wrong, and the opinions keep changing. But God’s Word stays the same, and it always points the right way.
This is why reading the Bible is one of the most important habits you can build. It’s not just an old book. It’s God speaking to you. The more you read it, the more light you’ll have.
If you’re not sure where to start, try the Gospel of Mark. It’s short and fast-paced, and it’s all about Jesus. You could read one chapter a day. In about two weeks, you’d finish a whole book of the Bible!
Think about it: What is a situation in your life right now where you need God’s light to show you the next step?
Try this: Choose a Bible reading time for after these 30 days are finished. Write it down. You might start with Mark 1 tomorrow.
Dear God, thank You for giving us Your Word. When I don’t know which way to go, let the Bible be a lamp to my feet. Help me want to read it every day. Show me the next step, and help me follow it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
