Day 17 — Never Alone

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said: ‘Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence: ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’”

— Hebrews 13:5–6 (BSB)

Think of a time you felt really alone. Maybe it was your first day at a new school, when you didn’t know where to sit at lunch. Maybe it was lying awake in the dark after a bad dream. Maybe it was when a friend stopped talking to you, or when someone in your family was sick and nobody would tell you what was going on.

Feeling alone is one of the hardest feelings there is. But today’s verse is one of the best promises in the whole Bible. God says, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”

Forsake means to walk away from someone and leave them on their own. God says He will never, ever do that. Not when you’re scared. Not when you’re sad. Not when you’ve messed up. Not when nobody else seems to understand.

Notice where this promise comes up. The writer is talking about being content with what you have. Why? Because when you have God, you have what matters most. Money, stuff and popularity can all disappear. But God stays.

Then look at how the writer responds: “So we say with confidence: ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.’” Because God is always with us, we don’t have to be ruled by fear. Scary things might still happen. People might still be unkind. But you never have to face any of it by yourself.

People might let you down, even people who love you. Friends move away. Grown-ups make mistakes. But God keeps His word every single time.

So the next time you feel alone, say it out loud: “The Lord is my helper.” It’s true on the playground, in the hospital, at a new school and in the middle of the night.

Think about it: When do you feel most alone? How could remembering this promise help you in that moment?

Try this: Memorize God’s promise: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” Say it to yourself tonight as you fall asleep.

Dear God, thank You for promising that You will never leave me or forsake me. When I feel lonely, help me remember that You are right here. You are my helper, so I don’t have to be afraid. Thank You for always keeping Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
