Day 15 — Forgiven

“He has not dealt with us according to our sins or repaid us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His loving devotion for those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

— Psalm 103:10–12 (BSB)

Here’s a puzzle. If you start walking north and keep going, eventually you’ll reach the North Pole. Then, if you keep walking straight, you’ll suddenly be heading south. North and south meet at the poles.

But what about east and west? If you start walking east, you can walk around the whole world and never once be walking west. East and west never meet. They go on forever.

That’s exactly the picture David used. When God forgives you, He removes your sins “as far as the east is from the west.” In other words, He takes them so far away that they will never come back to meet you.

Maybe there’s something you did that still makes you feel ashamed. Maybe you lied, or said something cruel, or did something nobody knows about. If you have told God about it and trusted Jesus, then it is gone. Jesus paid for it on the cross. God isn’t keeping a list. He isn’t waiting to bring it up again later.

David also says God “has not dealt with us according to our sins.” That means God doesn’t give us what we deserve. Instead, He gives us “loving devotion”: a love so big it’s as high as the sky above the earth.

Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is yourself. You might keep thinking about what you did, even after God has forgiven you. But if God has thrown your sin away, you don’t need to keep digging it back up. When you feel guilty about something you’ve already confessed, remind yourself: God has taken that as far as the east is from the west.

Being forgiven doesn’t mean sin doesn’t matter. It means Jesus took it seriously enough to die for it. And now you’re free.

Think about it: Is there something you’ve asked God to forgive that you still feel guilty about? What does Psalm 103:12 say about it?

Try this: Write down a sin you’ve confessed to God on a scrap of paper. Then tear it into tiny pieces and throw it away as a reminder that God has removed it.

Dear God, thank You for not treating me the way my sins deserve. Thank You for forgiving me and removing my sin as far as the east is from the west. When I feel guilty about things You have already forgiven, help me trust what You say. Thank You, Jesus, for paying for it all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
