Day 13 — Made on Purpose

“For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.”

— Psalm 139:13–14 (BSB)

Jada scrolled through pictures of kids from her class. One had perfect hair. One had a hundred likes on a dance video. Across town, Marcus sat on the bench watching his team play. The other boys seemed faster, taller and better at everything. Both of them were thinking the same thing: Why can’t I be more like them?

Have you ever felt that way? It’s easy to compare yourself with other kids: your looks, your clothes, your grades, your talents, how many friends you have. But comparing is a game no one ever wins. There will always be someone who seems better at something.

King David, who wrote Psalm 139, had a different way of seeing himself. He said God “knit me together.” Think about someone knitting a sweater. They don’t do it by accident! They choose every color and make every stitch on purpose. That’s how God made you. Your face, your laugh, your personality, the way your brain works, even the things you wish were different: God knew all of it before you were born.

Look at the word fearfully. It doesn’t mean God was scared when He made you! It means with awe and great care. When God made you, He made something amazing.

Notice something else: David didn’t say, “I am wonderfully made…once I’m as good as that other kid.” He said, “I know this very well.” He believed it, deep down.

This doesn’t mean you’re perfect or that you’ll never mess up. It means your worth doesn’t come from a mirror, a scoreboard or a screen. It comes from the One who made you and loves you. Nobody else in the whole world was made to be you.

And remember: the kids you compare yourself with were knit together by God too. So instead of competing with them, you can celebrate them.

Think about it: When are you most tempted to compare yourself to others? What would change if you really believed Psalm 139:14?

Try this: Write “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” on a sticky note and put it on your mirror. Read it out loud every morning this week.

Dear God, thank You for making me on purpose. When I start comparing myself to others, remind me that You knit me together and that Your works are marvelous. Help me see myself the way You see me. And help me see other people that way too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
