Day 15 — Money Wise

“Dishonest wealth will dwindle, but what is earned through hard work will be multiplied.”

— Proverbs 13:11 (BSB)

Maybe you get an allowance. Maybe you earn money doing chores, babysitting, pet sitting or running a lemonade stand. Maybe you get money for birthdays. As you grow up, you’ll have more and more money to make choices about.

What do you do with it? Spend it right away? Save it? Give some away?

Proverbs gives a simple principle: “Dishonest wealth will dwindle, but what is earned through hard work will be multiplied.”

Money that comes through cheating or shortcuts doesn’t last. But money earned honestly, through hard work, and handled wisely, tends to grow.

Here are some money-wise habits you can start now:

Give first. The Bible says God loves a cheerful giver. Many Christians give part of their money to God first, to their church or to help people in need.

Save some. Put some money aside for later, instead of spending it all right away. Saving helps you get something bigger that you really want, and teaches you patience.

Spend wisely. Before you buy something, ask: Do I really need this? Will I still want it next week? Is it worth the money?

Don’t compare. It’s easy to want what other girls have. But contentment is worth more than stuff.

Work hard. Proverbs says honest hard work multiplies. Do your chores and jobs well.

Be honest. Never take money that isn’t yours.

Many families use three jars or envelopes: Give, Save and Spend. When you get money, you divide it between the three. It’s a simple way to build wise habits.

Money isn’t good or bad by itself. It’s a tool. And how you handle a little bit now is practice for handling more later.

Think about it: What do you usually do with money when you get it? What’s one money-wise habit you could start?

Try this: Set up three jars or envelopes: Give, Save and Spend. The next time you get money, divide it between them.

Dear God, everything I have comes from You. Help me be wise with money: to give generously, save wisely and spend carefully. Help me work hard and be honest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
