No More Wages, Only God

“My God will supply everything you need.” — from Philippians 4

When George grew up he became a preacher, and the church paid him wages, like a job. But George had an unusual idea. He decided to stop taking wages altogether!

Instead, he would trust God to provide. He put a little box on the wall of the church, so anyone who wanted to could give — but he made a firm rule: he would never ask a single person for money. He would only ever ask God. If he had a need, he would tell God about it, and nobody else.

It sounds a bit frightening, doesn’t it? And one day soon it was put to the test. George and his wife had almost no money left — only a few coins. So they did what they had promised: they knelt down and told God.

A few hours later, a woman came to their door and asked, “Do you need any money?” She gave them some — and here is the wonderful part. She said God had put it in her heart to give it two weeks earlier! God had started the answer before George had even prayed. And George had never told her they were in need. Only God knew.

God knows exactly what you need before you even ask him. You can tell him about anything, and trust him to take care of you.

Dear God, thank you that you already know what I need. Help me to trust you and tell you everything. Amen.
