Praying His Friends to Tears

“Pray for one another.” — from James 5

Now that George was so happy knowing God, he wanted his friends to be happy too. So he told two of his old friends all about it.

But they just shrugged. “We don’t feel that we are sinners,” they said. “We don’t feel we’ve done anything that needs forgiving.”

What could George do? He couldn’t make them see. So he did the only thing he could think of — he prayed. Right there, he got down on his knees and asked God to show his two friends the truth about their own hearts. Then he went off into his bedroom and kept on praying for them.

And when George came back — his two friends were crying. Both of them! God had done what George could not. They told him that now they knew they were sinners, and that they needed God too.

George was learning something he would use for the rest of his life: when we can’t change something ourselves, we can pray, and God can.

Is there someone you wish knew God — a friend, a brother or sister, someone in your family? You don’t have to make them believe. You can do what George did. You can pray for them, and leave the rest to God.

Dear God, please help the people I love to know you. I can’t do it, but you can. Amen.
