Milk for Breakfast

“Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” — from Psalm 34

Every morning the orphans had the same happy breakfast: warm oatmeal porridge with milk. But milk costs money — and one evening there was almost none.

The milkman would come early the next morning, before eight o’clock, and there would be no money to pay him and no milk for the children’s porridge. What could be done?

So that evening, at six o’clock, George and two helpers knelt down together and asked God to send what was needed before morning.

They had only just got up off their knees when a letter arrived. Inside was a gift for the orphans! The kind person who sent it had written something wonderful along with it: “I love to send these little gifts. They so often come just at the right time.”

She had no idea about the milk, or the morning, or the empty purse. But God knew. And he had already sent her letter on its way, so that it arrived the very evening it was needed — in time for milk in the morning.

God loves to answer prayers like that: an evening prayer, answered before the sun comes up. When you seek God and trust him, you will not miss out on the good things you truly need.

Dear God, thank you that you answer prayers, even before morning comes. I will trust you with tomorrow. Amen.
