The Bank That Cannot Break

“Store up treasure in heaven, where nothing is ever lost.” — from Matthew 6

One day some visitors came to look around the boys’ orphan home. They were amazed at how well the children were cared for. But they were also a little puzzled.

“Of course,” a lady said, “you couldn’t run all this without a big pile of money saved up in the bank. You must have a good stock of funds.”

And a gentleman asked the woman who ran the home, “Do you have a good stock of money put by?”

Now, the truth was there was hardly any money at all just then. But listen to the beautiful answer she gave: “Our money is kept in a bank that cannot break.”

What did she mean? She meant God himself. Ordinary banks can run out. But God never runs out, and God never lets his people down. He was their bank — the one bank in all the world that can never, ever break.

The lady was so touched that tears came into her eyes. And as the visitors left, the gentleman gave five pounds — which arrived at the exact moment when George didn’t have a single penny left.

You can keep your treasure in that same safe place. Money can be lost or spent, but the good things you do for God, and your trust in him, are stored up somewhere nothing can ever break.

Dear God, you never run out and you never fail. Help me to keep my treasure safe with you. Amen.
