The Grain That Grows

“Unless a seed falls into the ground, it stays just one seed. But if it does, it grows into much more.” — from John 12

Imagine you are holding one little seed in your hand. Just one.

Now, what if you kept it safe in a jar on a shelf, so nothing could ever happen to it? In a year, how many seeds would you have? Still just one! It would stay one lonely little seed forever.

But what if you planted it in the ground instead? Something amazing happens under the soil. The little seed splits open and changes — and up grows a tall plant, with lots and lots of new seeds on it! One seed became many, because it was planted.

Jesus said he was like that seed. He was willing to give up his own life, like a seed going into the ground — and because he did, so many, many people can now have new life with God. He didn’t keep his life safe just for himself. He gave it, and it grew into a huge harvest of people who love him.

And Jesus said we can be like that too. If you hold on to everything just for yourself — always wanting to be first, never sharing — you stay small, like one seed in a jar. But if you give and share and think of others, your life grows into something big and beautiful.

Giving is not losing. Giving is how good things grow.

Dear God, thank you for Jesus, who gave his life for me. Help me to give and share, so good things can grow. Amen.
