Frost and Thaw

“He gives the snow. He sends his word, and melts it away.” — from Psalm 147

Have you ever seen the world on a frosty winter morning? Everything is hard and white and frozen. The puddles turn to ice. The ground is as hard as stone.

Then, after a while, a warm wind blows. The sun comes out. And in just a few hours, all the ice and frost melt away into water, as if they were never there!

Who does that? The Bible says God does. He sends the frost, and he sends the warm wind that melts it. Both of them come from him.

Something like that can happen inside us, too. Sometimes we do something wrong, and then we feel it. Our heart goes cold and sad and sorry. That sad, sorry feeling is a bit like the frost.

But that is not the end of the story! When we tell God we are sorry, he sends his love like a warm spring wind. It melts the cold sadness away, and he forgives us, and our heart feels happy and warm again.

Only God can melt a heart like that. We cannot do it ourselves. So if you ever feel cold and sorry inside because of something you did, don’t stay frozen. Tell God. He loves to send the warm wind.

Dear God, when my heart feels cold and sorry, please send your warm love to melt it, and forgive me. Amen.
