The Shoes She Prayed For

“What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them.” — Mark 11:24

One day Amanda felt sure that God wanted her to go and tell people about Jesus in a town called Salem. It was far away, and she did not know a single person there. But she trusted God, and she began to get ready to go.

There was just one problem. Her shoes were worn right through — there were holes in the bottoms. If her feet got wet on the journey, she knew she would fall sick.

Amanda did not have money for new shoes. So she did what she always did: she told God about it. “Lord,” she prayed, “if it is Your will, please give me the money for shoes.” And she believed He would.

A few days later, at a meeting, a dear old man named Father Brummell shook her hand as he said goodbye. As he did, he quietly pressed something into her palm. Amanda thanked him and slipped it into her pocket without looking.

That night by the fire, she remembered it. She pulled it out and counted — one, two, three, four, five dollars! It was exactly enough for a new pair of shoes. She was so happy she could hardly sleep. God had answered her prayer.

God is never too busy for the small things in your life. Whatever you truly need, you can tell Him about it and trust Him to help — even something as ordinary as a pair of shoes.

Dear God, thank You that You care about the little things I need. Help me to bring everything to You and to trust You for the answer. Amen.
