The Money on the Kitchen Floor

“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.” — Luke 16:10

Amanda had a younger sister named Frances, and Amanda loved her dearly. To set her free, Amanda had to pay a great deal of money — more than she had. So she borrowed fifty dollars, and now she owed that debt. It worried her day and night.

One afternoon a kind, wealthy man named Mr. Robert visited the family. After dinner he played in the kitchen, and without knowing it, he dropped a little twist of paper on the floor. It looked like nothing special.

Later, when Amanda bent to pick it up, her eyes went wide. It was money — three hundred dollars! And no one else was in the room.

A sneaky thought crept in: “Keep it. Now you can pay off your debt, and no one will ever know.” But Amanda answered right back, “No. I do not mean to get into any trouble about this money at all.”

When Mr. Robert came home searching everywhere, Amanda quietly reached into her pocket and handed him every dollar. He was so happy and so grateful that he gave her fifty dollars as a thank-you — the exact amount she needed to pay off her debt!

Amanda did the honest thing, even when no one was watching and even when she really needed the money. God saw, and God took care of her. When you are faithful in small things, you can trust Him to care for you, too.

Dear God, help me to be honest even when it is hard, and even when no one is looking. Thank You that I can always trust You. Amen.
