The Forgotten Wages

“Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” — from Matthew 6

Hudson worked for a busy doctor, who paid him wages. But Hudson wanted to train his trust in God even more. So he made a plan: when his pay was due, he would not remind the doctor. Instead, he would ask God to remind him.

Pay day came and went — and the doctor, who was very forgetful, simply forgot. Hudson said nothing to him, but he told God all about it, and his money got lower and lower.

Then one day the doctor suddenly said, “By the way, Taylor — isn’t your pay due again?” Hudson’s heart jumped! But then the doctor remembered he had just sent all his spare money to the bank. Oh dear. Hudson kept quiet and kept praying.

Late that Saturday night — about ten o’clock — the doctor came back into the room, chuckling. One of his richest patients had just turned up at that strange hour to pay a bill! The doctor handed the money to Hudson and said, “You might as well take these.”

God had done it — quietly nudging other people, at just the right time, without Hudson having to ask anyone but God.

You don’t always have to work everything out yourself or nag people for what you need. Your Father in heaven already knows, and he can arrange things in ways you’d never expect. Ask him.

Dear God, thank you that you already know what I need. Help me to bring it to you first, and trust your timing. Amen.
