In the Hayfield
“He makes the grass grow for the animals.” — from Psalm 104
Think about grass. It grows everywhere — in fields, in parks, by the road. You walk on it every day and probably never think about it at all.
But here is a question: who makes the grass grow? We might say, “Oh, it just grows by itself.” But it doesn’t, really. God makes every single blade of grass grow. He is that close to the world, and that busy taking care of it.
And why does he grow all that grass? The Bible says he grows it “for the animals” — for the cows and the sheep, so they will have plenty to eat. Think about that. God grows food for animals, who can’t even say thank you!
So here is something wonderful to remember: if God takes such good care of the grass and the cows and the sheep, how much more does he take care of you?
Did you know that every little blade of grass gets its own drop of dew in the morning? Not one big drop for the whole field — a little drop for each one. That is how carefully God gives things what they need. And he knows exactly what you need, too.
Even when you feel small, or think nobody notices you, God sees you. He has never once forgotten you.
Dear God, thank you for taking care of even the grass. Thank you for taking care of me. Amen.
