Wheat in the Barn

“Gather the wheat into my barn.” — from Matthew 13

Here is the very last part of the harvest, and it is the happiest part of all.

When the good wheat is finally ready, the farmer gathers it all up and carries it safely inside the barn. And once it is inside, nothing can hurt it anymore. No rain. No frost. No cold wind. It is safe and dry and warm, right where it belongs.

Jesus told a story just like this. He said that one day God will gather all his people together — people from every country in the world, big ones and small ones, young ones and old ones — and bring them safely home to be with him. Like wheat gathered into the barn.

That safe, happy, forever home is called heaven. It is a place with no more crying and no more sadness — just being with God, and being safe, forever.

So we don’t ever need to be afraid of the end. For everyone who loves God, the end is not a sad thing at all. It is like the wheat coming into the barn at last. It is going home.

Will you be part of God’s harvest? You can be! Just tell him you want to belong to him. And then, one day, you will be gathered safely home.

Dear God, thank you that you gather your people safely home. I want to belong to you. Please keep me close, today and forever. Amen.
