Day 11 — Gentle and Strong

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

— Matthew 11:28–29 (BSB)

Who is the strongest man who ever lived?

Not Samson. Not David. Not a superhero or a famous athlete. It’s Jesus.

Jesus calmed storms with a word. He walked on water. He healed diseases, cast out demons and raised the dead. He faced down religious leaders, soldiers and the Roman governor without flinching. He carried His own cross and endured the worst suffering anyone has ever faced. And then He walked out of the grave, defeating death itself.

That’s strength.

But look at how Jesus describes Himself: “I am gentle and humble in heart.”

Gentle? The strongest man who ever lived calls Himself gentle?

Yes! And that shows us something important about real strength. Gentleness isn’t weakness. It’s strength under control. It’s having power and choosing to use it carefully, kindly and for the good of others.

Think about a huge, powerful horse that lets a little kid ride on its back. The horse could throw the kid off in a second. But it carries him gently. That’s strength under control.

Jesus was gentle with children, holding them in His arms. He was gentle with people who were sick, sad or ashamed. He was gentle with Peter after Peter denied Him. But He was never weak. When He saw injustice or people being cheated in God’s temple, He stood up strongly.

That’s the kind of man Jesus wants you to become: strong and gentle. Strong enough to stand up for what’s right, and gentle enough to be kind to the weak.

Some guys think they have to be rough and hard all the time to be real men. But the most real Man who ever lived was gentle. Being gentle with a little sibling, careful with a kid who’s hurt or kind to someone who’s struggling doesn’t make you less of a guy. It makes you more like Jesus.

Think about it: Why do you think some guys think gentleness is weakness? How does Jesus show that it’s actually strength?

Try this: Be gentle with someone today, maybe a younger kid, a pet or someone who’s sad. Use your strength to help, not to push.

Dear Jesus, You are the strongest and gentlest man who ever lived. Help me be strong like You and gentle like You. Help me use my strength to protect and help others, not to hurt them. In Your name, Amen.
