Mother's Locked Door

“The prayer of a good person is powerful and works wonders.” — from James 5

Here is the amazing part. At the very same time Hudson was reading that little booklet, something was happening far, far away.

His mother, visiting friends many miles from home, suddenly felt she simply had to pray for her boy. She went up to her room, turned the key in the lock so no one would disturb her, and prayed — and prayed — for hours. She kept praying until deep in her heart she felt certain that God had heard, and that Hudson was now safe with God. Then she stopped asking and started thanking him.

Two weeks later she came home. Hudson ran to her, bursting to share his wonderful news. But before he could speak, she smiled and said, “I know, my boy. I have been rejoicing for a whole fortnight!” God himself had told her, and she had told no one.

Later Hudson found his sister Amelia’s little diary. In it she had written that she would pray for her brother every single day until he came to God. And it was exactly one month later that he did.

Somebody, somewhere, may be praying for you right now — and God hears every one of those prayers. And you can pray like that for the people you love, too. God really does listen.

Dear God, thank you for people who pray for me. Help me to pray faithfully for the people I love. Amen.
