Conclusion: A Son Growing Up

You did it! Ninety days, if you’ve read all three books. That’s three whole months of spending time with God, learning who you are and discovering how to live as His son.

Take a moment to think about how much you’ve grown, not just taller, but on the inside.

This book was about growing up. You learned that feelings are part of how God made you, even for guys, and how to handle anger, sadness, pressure and grief. You learned that your changing body is God’s good design, and what to expect as you grow into a man. You learned to make wise choices about crushes, money, the crowd and danger, and to keep a pure heart. You discovered that you’re not too young for God to use, that He gives all kinds of gifts, and that work is good. And you learned from Elijah and Elisha, Paul and Timothy, and Caleb how to learn from older men, pass it on to younger ones and finish well.

You also met five real men who trusted God: John Paton, Eric Liddell (again!), Jim Elliot, George Liele and Simeon Nsibambi. Not one of them was perfect. But each one ran his race for God.

Growing up isn’t always easy. But you don’t have to do it alone. God is with you every step. And He’s given you men, like your dad, your grandfathers, your pastors and the men at church, to walk beside you.

Please keep talking to them. Keep asking questions. There’s no question too dumb or too embarrassing. They want to help you grow into the man God made you to be.

If you haven’t trusted Jesus yet

The most important step in growing up is trusting Jesus. He died on the cross for your sins and rose again, so that you could be forgiven and become a son of the King forever. You can pray something like this:

Dear Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again. I’m sorry for the wrong things I’ve done. I trust You as my Savior, and I want to follow You as I grow up. Thank You for making me a son of the King. Amen.

If you prayed that, tell someone: your dad or mom, a pastor, a leader or a Christian friend!

What’s next

Keep growing! Here are some ideas:

  • Read a book of the Bible, like the Gospel of Mark (short and full of action) or the book of Proverbs.
  • Read the Brave for God books to learn more about the men (and women!) you’ve met.
  • Read Rooted, our 180-day series for all young readers, if you haven’t yet.
  • Keep a prayer journal.
  • Find a mentor, and pass it on.

You are a son of the King. Wherever life takes you, remember whose you are.

“May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.”

— Numbers 6:24–26 (BSB)
