Day 4 — When No One’s Watching
“The eyes of the LORD are in every place, observing the evil and the good.”
— Proverbs 15:3 (BSB)
Have you ever done your chores really well when your mom was watching, and then slacked off as soon as she left the room? Or behaved perfectly in front of the teacher, and then goofed off when she stepped out?
Most people act differently when they think no one’s watching. But here’s a truth that changes everything: “The eyes of the LORD are in every place.”
God sees everything. Every place, every moment. There’s no room He can’t see into, no screen He doesn’t know about, no thought He doesn’t understand.
At first, that might sound scary, like God is a security camera waiting to catch you doing something wrong. But that’s not what this verse is about.
Notice what God sees: “the evil and the good.” God doesn’t only see the bad things you do. He sees the good things too, including the ones nobody else notices. When you clean your room without being asked, God sees it. When you’re kind to a kid nobody else is kind to, God sees it. When you tell the truth even though a lie would have been easier, God sees it. When you pray in the dark before you fall asleep, God sees it.
Many of the best things you’ll ever do will be things nobody else knows about. But God knows. And He’s a Father who is proud of His son.
So what does integrity look like when no one’s watching?
- Doing your chores just as well when your parents are out as when they’re home.
- Not looking at things online you wouldn’t look at if your dad were next to you.
- Being kind to your little brother even when no one would ever know if you weren’t.
- Doing your homework honestly, even when you could get away with cheating.
- Keeping your promises, even ones nobody would remember.
A man of integrity is the same when the lights are off as when they’re on.
Think about it: Do you act differently when you think no one’s watching? How does it change things to know God sees the good too?
Try this: Do one good thing today that nobody will ever know about. Only God will see it.
Dear God, thank You that You see everything, the bad and the good. Help me be the same guy when no one’s watching as when everyone is. Thank You that You notice the good things nobody else sees. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
