Day 25 — Andrew, the Bringer
“Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and requested of him, ‘Sir, we want to see Jesus.’ Philip relayed this appeal to Andrew, and both of them went and told Jesus.”
— John 12:20–22 (BSB)
Andrew isn’t one of the most famous disciples. His brother, Peter, got a lot more attention. Peter preached big sermons, walked on water and became a leader of the church. Andrew didn’t do many of the flashy things.
But every time Andrew shows up in the Gospel of John, he’s doing the same thing: bringing people to Jesus.
He brought his brother. When Andrew first met Jesus, the very first thing he did was run and find his brother Simon Peter. “We have found the Messiah!” And he brought Peter to Jesus. (Remember Day 1 of Book 1?)
He brought a boy. When five thousand hungry people were gathered on a hillside, Andrew was the one who found a boy with five loaves and two fish, and brought him to Jesus. And Jesus fed the whole crowd.
He brought strangers. In today’s verses, some Greeks, people who weren’t even Jewish, came wanting to see Jesus. They asked Philip, and Philip went to Andrew. And “both of them went and told Jesus.”
Andrew might not have been the most famous disciple. But he was a bringer. He brought his family, he brought a kid, and he brought outsiders, all to Jesus.
You might not be the loudest, the most popular or the most talented guy. That’s fine! You can still be a bringer, like Andrew:
- Bring a friend to church or youth group.
- Bring your questions to Jesus in prayer.
- Bring people who are hurting to Jesus by praying for them.
- Bring the new kid into your group.
- Bring up Jesus in normal conversation.
Being a bringer doesn’t take special talent. It just takes caring about people and knowing that Jesus is the best Person you could ever introduce them to.
This week, we’ll meet four men who followed Jesus: Andrew, Thomas, John and Peter. Each one teaches us something about following Him.
Think about it: Who is someone you could “bring” to Jesus, by inviting them, praying for them or telling them about Him?
Try this: Invite a friend to church, youth group or a Christian event this week. Be a bringer.
Dear Jesus, thank You for Andrew, who kept bringing people to You. Help me be a bringer too. Show me who I could bring to You, and give me the courage to invite them. In Your name, Amen.
