Day 1 — Walking with Integrity
“The righteous man walks with integrity; blessed are his children after him.”
— Proverbs 20:7 (BSB)
What’s the difference between a real diamond and a fake one?
From across the room, they might look the same. Both sparkle. Both look expensive. But look closely, or test them, and you’ll find out. The real one is diamond all the way through. The fake one is just glass pretending.
Integrity means being real all the way through. The word comes from the same root as integer, a whole number. A person with integrity is whole. He’s not one guy at church and a different guy at school. He’s not one guy when his parents are around and another when they’re gone. He’s not honest when it’s easy and dishonest when it costs something. He’s the same all the way through.
Solomon says, “The righteous man walks with integrity.” Notice it says walks. Integrity isn’t a one-time thing. It’s how you walk through life, day after day, step after step. Every choice is a step.
And look at the promise: “blessed are his children after him.” A guy who lives with integrity doesn’t just bless himself. He blesses his family, and even the people who come after him. His example shapes the next generation.
Right now, you’re building the kind of man you’ll become. Every time you tell the truth when a lie would be easier, every time you do the right thing when nobody’s watching, every time you keep your word, you’re building integrity.
And every time you cheat a little, lie a little or act one way in front of some people and another way in front of others, you’re building something too. Just not something good.
The good news is that you don’t have to build integrity on your own. Jesus is the one Person who was perfectly the same all the way through. When you follow Him, He helps make you whole.
This week, we’re going to look at what integrity looks like in the everyday life of a guy your age.
Think about it: Are you the same guy everywhere, at home, at school, online and at church? Where is it hardest?
Try this: Pay attention today to one area where you’re tempted to act differently depending on who’s around. Choose to be the real you.
Dear God, I want to be real all the way through, like a real diamond, not a fake. Help me walk with integrity every day, and be the same guy wherever I am. Make me whole, like Jesus. In His name, Amen.
