Day 14 — A Time for Everything

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

— Ecclesiastes 3:1 (BSB)

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

— Ecclesiastes 3:11 (BSB)

Have you noticed how the year moves through seasons? Winter, when trees are bare. Spring, when new leaves and flowers pop out. Summer, when everything is green and full. Fall, when the leaves change color and drop. Each season is different, but each one is part of God’s design.

Your life has seasons too. You were once a tiny baby. Then a toddler learning to walk. Now you’re a kid, maybe getting close to being a teenager. And someday you’ll be an adult.

Right about the age you are now, a lot of changes start to happen. Your body begins to grow and change. Your feelings might change too. Some days you might feel happy and confident, and other days you might feel moody, emotional or unsure of yourself. Friendships might change. The things you’re interested in might change.

All of that can feel exciting. It can also feel confusing, awkward or even a little scary.

Here’s what God wants you to know: growing up is part of His good design. The changes that happen as you grow aren’t mistakes. God designed your body and your life to grow, season by season. “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

Remember Day 6 of Book 2? Jesus Himself grew up. He grew “in wisdom and stature.” He went through every season of growing up, just like you. He understands.

When you have questions about growing up, and everyone does, the best people to talk to are your parents or another trusted adult who loves you, like a grandparent, an aunt or a school nurse. They’ve been through it too! Don’t be embarrassed to ask. It’s much better to get your questions answered by someone who loves you than to guess, or to get answers from friends or the internet that might not be true.

And remember: in every season, God is with you. He knew you before you were born, and He’ll be with you through every change. Psalm 139 says, “all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:16).

Think about it: What’s one thing about growing up that you’re excited about? What’s one thing that feels confusing?

Try this: Talk with a parent or trusted adult about growing up. You could start by asking, “What was it like for you when you were my age?”

Dear God, thank You that You have a time for everything, and that You make things beautiful in their time. As I grow and change, help me trust that You designed me. Help me talk to people I trust when I have questions. Thank You for being with me in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
