The House of Wonderful Rooms
“Open my eyes, that I may see wonderful things.” — from Psalm 119
Along the path Christian came to the house of a man called the Interpreter, whose job was to help people understand important things. The Interpreter lit a candle and said, “Come, let me show you some wonders.” And he took Christian from room to room.
In one room there was a big parlour so full of dust that nobody could breathe. A man began to sweep it — but the dust flew up in thick clouds and made Christian cough and choke! Then a girl came and gently sprinkled water all over the floor, and suddenly the room could be swept clean and lovely.
“The dust is sin,” the Interpreter explained. “Just telling people the rules only stirs the sin up, like sweeping dry dust. But the good news of Jesus is like the water — it settles the dust and makes the heart truly clean.”
In another room a fire burned against a wall. A man kept throwing water on it to put it out — yet the fire only burned higher and hotter! Christian was puzzled. Then the Interpreter took him behind the wall, where another man was secretly pouring oil on the fire to keep it alive. “That is Jesus,” he said, “keeping the fire of faith burning in your heart, even when things try to put it out.”
God loves to teach us how things really work on the inside. Ask him to open your eyes, and he will show you wonderful things.
Dear God, please open my eyes to understand you. Keep the fire of your love burning in me. Amen.
